"There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root."
Henry David Thoreau

But what and where are the roots of corruption?

We have to strike at the roots of corruption to diminish it.  To do that our cultures have to make the connection among honor , integrity and self respect.  That is when corruption will cease to have power.

Every human being has aspirations.  Self respect is the most basic aspiration of all and your legacy is the result of that self respect.  Have self respect and honor is yours forever.

And why is honor so important?  It is not because of what others think, but because it is the ultimate meaning of your existence in the universe.

A person with true self respect is honorable.  An honorable person cannot be corrupt.  That is why our cultures must create the highest expectations from everybody as part of a generally accepted honor code.  This is not something new.  In history, some cultures have favored strong honor codes.

It is the only effective path to stop corruption at its roots.

Anti-Corruption League is developing and implementing an honor code system that emphasizes strong expectations of self respect , honor and integrity.

The honor code system is:

  1. based on universal human principles and standards,
  2. in accord with all fundamental spiritual beliefs, and
  3. espoused by every major religion.

“- Why are you drinking? - the little prince asked.
- In order to forget - replied the drunkard.
- To forget what? - enquired the little prince, who was already feeling sorry for him.
- To forget that I am ashamed - the drunkard confessed, hanging his head.
- Ashamed of what? - asked the little prince who wanted to help him.
- Ashamed of drinking! - concluded the drunkard, withdrawing into total silence.
And the little prince went away, puzzled.
'Grown-ups really are very, very odd', he said to himself as he continued his journey.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Legacy Quotes

"In the short term we all die.  In eternity the only evidence of our life is our legacy.  Each of us defines and identifies the legacy we have, which derives from our self respect, and that legacy is forever."
yamacharya

A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."
Stephen Crane

“This light of history is pitiless; it has a strange and divine quality that, luminous as it is, and precisely because it is luminous, often casts a shadow just where we saw a radiance; out of the same man it makes two different phantoms, and the one attacks and punishes the other, the darkness of the despot struggles with the splendor of the captain... Woe to the man who leaves behind a shadow that bears his form.”
Victor Hugo
